The Office for Intellectual Freedom, part of the American Library Association, collects reports of books that have been banned and challenged from across the United States. Here is the list of the most frequently banned and challenged books for 2014.<\/p>\n

1) The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie <\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: anti-family, cultural insensitivity, drugs\/alcohol\/smoking, gambling, offensive language, sex education, sexually explicit, unsuited for age group, violence. Additional reasons: \u201cdepictions of bullying\u201d<\/p>\n

2) Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: gambling, offensive language, political viewpoint. Additional reasons: \u201cpolitically, racially, and socially offensive,\u201d \u201cgraphic depictions\u201d<\/p>\n

3) And Tango Makes Three, Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: Anti-family, homosexuality, political viewpoint, religious viewpoint, unsuited for age group. Additional reasons: \u201cpromotes the homosexual agenda\u201d<\/p>\n

4) The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: Sexually explicit, unsuited for age group. Additional reasons: \u201ccontains controversial issues\u201d<\/p>\n

5) It\u2019s Perfectly Normal, by Robie Harris<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: Nudity, sex education, sexually explicit, unsuited to age group. Additional reasons: \u201calleges it child pornography\u201d<\/p>\n

6) Saga, by Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staples<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: Anti-Family, nudity, offensive language, sexually explicit, and unsuited for age group. Additional reasons:<\/p>\n

7) The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: Offensive language, unsuited to age group, violence<\/p>\n

8) The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: drugs\/alcohol\/smoking, homosexuality, offensive language, sexually explicit, unsuited for age group. Additional reasons: \u201cdate rape and masturbation\u201d<\/p>\n

9) A Stolen Life, Jaycee Dugard<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: drugs\/alcohol\/smoking, offensive language, sexually explicit, and unsuited for age group<\/p>\n

10) Drama, by Raina Telgemeier<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reasons: sexually explicit<\/p>\n
